About the Author

After college and a four-year stint in the US Navy, Alonzo Cavin began a teaching career in 1965. As a former low-income, disadvantaged student, his main academic concern has been helping low-income students achieve success in higher education. His doctoral dissertation and most of his publications have been investigations into the educational, social, and political concerns of these students. Since retiring as Associate Professor Emeritus from Widener University, Alonzo Cavin turned his attention to his first work of fiction. Although based on actual people and situations he encountered first hand, he felt that he had to get into these persons’ heads. Since no one truly knows what anyone is actually thinking, he has to label this a work of fiction, but the characters are real, and their triumphs and failures are too. In This Is My Story, the author wants to make his academic, scholarly pursuit come alive.
