Barack Obama has been elected president of United States on November 4, 2008. In his victory speech, he declared, “And to all those watching tonight from beyond our shores, from parliaments and palaces, to those who are huddled around radios in the forgotten corners of the world, our stories are singular, but our destiny is shared, and a new dawn of American leadership is at hand. To those who would tear the world down: We will defeat you. To those who seek peace and security: We support you”. This is not the voice of the president of a country, but of the world. Yes, the world has been growing less and less with borders, and more and more connected to the United States. The world likes Obama and wanted him to win.
Obama, they realized, will make diplomacy a priority, stop shutting down consulates and start opening them in the tough and hopeless corners of the world, double foreign assistance to $50billion, help world’s weakest states build healthy and educated communities, reduce poverty, develop markets and reduce poverty. But did the world outside the United States influence American elections to get what they want? This book reveals a bit of the creative effort.
