Inspiration is valuable if we know how to recognize and use it. Usually, we get inspiration and learn more from life from the lessons that are embedded in our daily experiences. Jeffery Martin felt he had the responsibility to inspire and touch people through poetry, thus he penned Weapon of Choice.
Weapon of Choice deals with subject matters that can impact a wide array of backgrounds – funny, sad, romantic, hurt, happy, political but mostly it is human. The words are arranged in such a manner that anyone can find themselves in one or more stanzas.
Martin’s goal in writing Weapon of Choice is to touch people in such a way that the experience is more real than surreal. He wants individuals to feel empowered by the written word. Poetry, he believes, has the potential to be far more than a few required readings. “In this technological age where most things come at the push of a button, the human family needs, at times, to be reminded that it is human beyond all else, and poetry can be that vehicle,” says Martin.
After searching the internet for publishers, Martin decided to self-publish with Xlibris. He professes, “It was the best professional decision I have ever made.” He added that the creation of his book was a formidable project made easy with the help of Xlibris. “I would definitely recommend Xlibris to other potential authors because with their support and professionalism, I am fulfilling a dream that started in the heart of a ten year old kid. Others can experience it too,” he strongly states.
Martin’s book has been earning rave reviews so far. He has been truly amazed by the comments made by those who have read Weapon of Choice. He notes, “Recently, I participated in a book festival at U.C.L.A. The beautiful replies I received in the festival from people I had never met almost moved me to tears.”
Just when Martin thought that it was enough that his book is receiving positive reviews, Weapon of Choice then garnered the prestige of being the Best Poetry Book in the recently-concluded 2008 Beach Book Festival. “I never imagined that my words could move people to that degree but it was a wonderful compliment,” he proudly said.
With the unprecedented success of his book and the clamor for more writings from Martin, he is now in the process of publishing a play through Xlibris. In the next few months, he is also set to release another book of poems and two children’s books through the same publisher.
Martin has gotten his inspiration from trying to learn something new everyday – being better and more alive each moment. He has recognized this and is now sharing this inspiration with the rest of the world. His book is his weapon of choice.
