G.L. Giles — Xlibris Author Spotlight

“I’m a big believer in facing one’s demons for true growth, acknowledging one’s shadow side as well as light side, and trying to walk in joyful balance.” – G.L. Giles

G.L. GilesThe world has known the concept of vampirism for millennia. Many civilizations had their own tales of demons and spirits, considered to be forerunners to modern vampires. Different adaptations have been told and American author, G.L. Giles, tells her own version.

Studying at the College of Charleston ignited her interest in Gothic Literature. Giles grew up hearing Charleston ghost stories, which led her to write her bachelor’s essay on Nathaniel Hawthorne, a 19th century Gothic writer.

After losing her job in the cosmetics industry – but still eager to express her creativity – Giles launched her vampire series with The Vampire Vignettes. “I’m glad I listened to my deep intuition that said being let go [from work] was a physical sign that I should be doing something else,” Giles said. Subsequently, she decided to rework and expand the storyline of the first book and its prequel, V2:B4. The result was the stand-alone V3: The Vampire Vignettes ReVamped. “I have a nontraditional series because readers should really start with V3: The Vampire Vignettes ReVamped,” she says.

For the publication of her books, Giles turned to Xlibris, one of the leaders in the print-on-demand industry, which she first read about in a magazine. “I called and requested a publishing packet by mail, and the rest is history.” Her publishing experience with Xlibris was so good that she decided to publish the third book with them as well. “Everyone at Xlibris was very helpful in answering my quadrillion questions,” she emphasized.

So far, her writing has been very well-received, particularly V3: The Vampire Vignettes ReVamped, which has been a top royalty earner at Xlibris. “I love getting those big checks. I’ve had over 120 major bookstore signings (for various Borders, Barnes & Noble and Waldenbooks stores) in the Southeast and Midwest. Xlibris’ [connection with] Ingram as a distributor has opened many doors in major bookstores for me and I’m extremely grateful.”

Giles recently accepted a column named ”The G.L. Giles Files” at Psychic Times.  She’ll be picking the mostly new releases she feels drawn to read and review for publication in her column.  Psychic Times is also a free download at http://www.voicesfrombeyond7.com/PsychicTimesWelcome.html.  “I encourage readers to check it out as there are many interesting articles in it,” she adds.
